Creighton Michael in "Dimensions Variable" at Waterhouse & Dodd, NYC

Creighton Michael is featured in the four-artist exhibition "Dimensions Variable" at Waterhouse & Dodd, New York. The other artists are Jae Ko, Derrick Velasquez, and Golnar Adili.

From curator Dr. Maxim Weintraub's (Dept. of Art, Hunter College, CUNY) essay that accompanies the exhibition:
"Dimensions Variable brings together four artists who radically reconsider, recast, and re-present the sculptural object. [...] The works assembled in this exhibition push the boundaries of sculpture into new and variable directions, allowing us to appreciate how the sculpted form, and our relationship to it, continues to be nomadic and unsettled."

Michele Muir: "Every 69 Seconds..." at Brother Chapman Gallery, New Rochelle

Michele Muir's moving black and white photo-essay about Alzheimer's disease, "Every 69 Seconds..." is on exhibit at Brother Chapman Gallery, Iona College Arts Center, 715 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY from November 1 to December 1, 2011.

There is an opening reception Sunday, November 6, 1 - 3 p.m. There will be a special viewing on Thursday, November 10, at 6:30 p.m. presenting the film "I Remember Better When I Paint" with filmmaker Berna Huebner.

November is National Alzheimer's Awareness Month, and Muir's photographs highlight with great compassion many facets of the lives of those living with the disease. The title of the show refers to the statistic that in the United States every 69 seconds, another person is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

In addition to being an exhibiting photographer, Muir is Director of Communications and Public Policy of The Alzheimer's Association, Poughkeepsie, NY.

James Grashow's Corrugated Fountain at Allan Stone Gallery, NYC

James Grashow’s sculpture,  Corrugated Fountain, will be exhibited from March 3-April 23, 2011, at Allan Stone Gallery, 113 East 90^th St., New York, NY. There will be an opening reception with the artist on Saturday, March 12, from 4-6 pm. 

Grashow works in cardboard. That sounds like it might look blocky until you see the result. The sculpture, inspired by Rome's Trevi Fountain, looks incredibly fluid, full of graceful curves and sea creatures, at the center of which is a very mighty-looking Poseidon. The cardboard looks hardly monochromatic—the dimensionality enhances the rich, brown tones of the paperboard. 

The gallery will also be screening excerpts from The Cardboard Bernini, a documentary on James Grashow by Olympia Stone. A fully-illustrated book of his work will be available.

Vasilios Sfinarolakis at Soho Photo, NYC

Client Vasilios Sfinarolakis is one of the winners of the 2009 Soho Photo National Photography Competition, juried by Susan Kismaric of MoMA. Soho Photo is located at 15 White St., New York, NY. The reception is Tuesday, July 7 from 6-8 pm.

Sfinarolakis is a Brooklyn-based artist with a background in film as well as still imagery. The image the jurors chose is a mysterious, traditional black and white gelatin silver print, seen above. It leaves the viewer with some interesting unanswered questions...
