Karen Neems: Orchestrated Realites at The Gallery at Still River Editions

Our next exhibition is Karen Neems: Orchestrated Realities, which features digital and mixed-media collage artworks by Neems that contain "orchestrated realities and perceptual puzzles." We hope you will join us for the artist's reception on Saturday, April 26th from 2 pm – 4 pm, which is free and open to the public. The show runs during our regular business hours 8:30 am – 5 pm Monday through Friday from April 14th – July 3, 2025.

Neems is an artist based in Stamford, Connecticut who has had numerous solo and group exhibitions at galleries and museums in the Northeast. Last year, she was among ten photographic artists included in an exhibition called In/Sight at the Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan. Whether she is creating collages digitally or cutting and pasting prints and other media, Neems says she chooses “to use photography to explore the relationships between images I observe and record, rather than for its documentary aspect.”

Summer Fun Exhibition at GTownArts opens June 7th

GtownArts Gallery at 5 Main St., Georgetown, CT will be hosting an exhibition called Summer Fun featuring artists including Still River Editions co-owners Catherine Vanaria and Mark Savoia, along artists including Shona Curtis, Karen Bonanno, Deborah Lecce, Rebecca Dunn, Bruce Dunbar, Julie Durkin Marty, Diana Gubbay, Will Kurtz, Jim Felice, and Bob Marty.

Shona Curtis, Karen Bonanno, and Jim Felice have exhibited at The Gallery at Still River Editions.

The opening reception is Friday, June 7th 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Runs through July 12th. Closing reception July 12th 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Regular gallery hours are weekends 12 noon - 5 pm and by appointment.

In/SIGHT Exhibition: Work by Ten Photographic Artists at Carriage Barn Arts Center

The Carriage Barn Arts Center’s group photography exhibition In/SIGHT features work by ten photographic artists: Sue Palmer Stone, Emily Laux, Caren Winnall, Karen Neems, Terry Douglas, Ann N. Brown, Torrance York, Dawn Watson, Pam Einarsen, and Bill Gore. The exhibition is on view Saturday, June 8th through Sunday, June 30th, 2024, with an opening reception on Sunday, June 9th from 3 pm - 5 pm. There will be an artists’ talk on Saturday, June 15th 10:30 am - noon, and a collage workshop on the same day from 1 - 2:30 pm (registration for the workshop is required at carriagebarn.org)

Trailer Box Project: Bethel group show of sculpture, drawing and photography opens May 18th

Trailer Box Project’s group sculpture, drawing, and photography exhibition features 15 artists, and opens Saturday, May 18th 2 pm - 5 pm with musical guest Cross Purpose. Sculptors include David Gesualdi, Gregory Golda, Bob Keating, John Lenoir, Janice Mauro, Francis Patnaude, and David Skora, plus others.

Trailer Box Project / Jim Felice Studios is located at 12 Francis J. Clarke Circle, Bethel, CT.  

The Granite Church Debut features an exhibition of photographs by Elyse Shapiro

The new non-profit arts venue The Granite Church is hosting a debut day full of arts and culture on Saturday, May 18th, 2024 from 1 pm - 9 pm at 5 N. Main St., Redding, CT. Admission is free.

An exhibition of photographs of the nearby Historic Wire Mill by Elyse Shapiro is one of the featured events. The opening reception for the exhibition begins at 4 pm, however the photographs will be on view all day.

Still River Editions printed Shapiro’s photographs for the exhibition. The photographs are also collected in a book which will be available as a gift with a $50 or greater donation to The Granite Church.

There will be music by North County Band, Voodoo Dream, Williams Family Band, Charlotte Roth, Kira McSpice.

Great Hollow Juried Art Show opens Friday, May 17th

Great Hollow Nature Preserve Juried Art Show runs from May 17-19, 2024 (or online May 17th through June 30th, 2024). The jurors were painter Linda Puiatti and photographer Justin Goodart.

There will be an opening Reception Friday, May 17th, 6 pm - 8 pm. Show hours are Saturday May 18th-Sunday May 19th, 10 am - 4 pm.

The exhibition takes place at the Gate House Barn at Great Hollow, 225 State Route 37, New Fairfield, CT.

Ridgefield Independent Film Festival 2024

Ridgefield Independent Film Festival is in its 9th year, and takes place May 16th through 19th, 2024. The festival features 39 independent films, Q&As, panel discussions, a film stills exhibition and other events.

The poster was designed by multi-faceted local artist Jennie Carr, whose work was featured in Still River Editions’ 2023 exhibition Flag Bearers.

The Beauty of Birds: Robyn Charmel's fine art photography featured at Connecticut Audubon fundraiser

The Connecticut Audubon Society is hosting a benefit on Saturday, May 18th for the new Stratford Point Preserve featuring a solo exhibition of the fine art avian photographs of Robyn Charmel, a dedicated , conservation-minded wildlife photographer with over 10 years in the craft. All proceeds from the sale of photographs from the exhibition will benefit Connecticut Audubon’s Stratford Point Preserve, a newly-acquired 28 acre coastal habitat on Long Island Sound.

Still River Editions printed the photographs in the exhibition.

The event takes place on Saturday, May 18th from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm, and RSVPs are required. 1207 Prospect Drive, Stratford, CT.

Still River Editions Goes Platinum

In March of 2024, digital fine art printing atelier Still River Editions of Danbury, CT achieved Platinum level as a Hahnemühle Certified Studio through the Hahnemühle Excellence Program. Established in 1584, Hahnemühle is one of the world’s oldest paper manufacturers, now known for their superior quality archival inkjet papers.

There are currently only seven platinum certified studios in the United States. Still River Editions was previously certified at Gold level in 2013.

Master Printmaker Mark Savoia worked closely with Hahnemühle to review qualifications that reflect the quality of Still River Editions’ printing services. This required extensive knowledge of color management, proper handling of papers, ability to make custom printer profiles, and experience in printer maintenance.

According to Hahnemühle, “Hahnemühle Certified Studio Program […] aims to highlight and reward print studios and laboratories that focus on printing excellence, quality consistency, and outstanding service with Hahnemühle inkjet papers. Platinum certified studios have excellent knowledge and advisory skills on the strengths and variety of the Hahnemühle FineArt portfolio as well as on the archivability and longevity of artworks and fine art prints.”

Still River Editions grew out of Connecticut Photographics, Inc., which was founded in 1987 in Danbury by Catherine Vanaria and Mark Savoia. Savoia, Vanaria and their colleague Lys Guillorn serve local and national clients who require superior results in fine art printmaking.

As the photographic industry changed from darkroom to digital services, Still River Editions grew and changed with it. Now the company serves primarily artists, fine art photographers, historians, and archivists, but the company keeps its services accessible to their community. In addition, Still River Editions offers film scanning, Cruse scanning of artwork and photographs, digital retouching and restoration services, and a small gallery with quarterly exhibitions.

“Between the Notes” is an exhibition of music photography by Michael Bram and Catherine Vanaria, and sculptures by Bob Keating taking place at Trailer Box Project / Jim Felice Studios, 12 Francis J. Clarke Circle, Bethel, CT. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, September 24th from 2 pm - 5 pm with music by Lys Guillorn & The Void Kittens from 3 pm - 4 pm. The exhibition runs through October 21st.

Michael Bram is a professional drummer who photographs as part of his life as a touring musician. Catherine Vanaria is a fine art photographer, master printmaker, and Professor of Art at WCSU who has been photographing bands since the 1970s. Bob Keating is a metal sculptor, painter, and printmaker. And Lys Guillorn & The Void Kittens are an indie-twang-garage band with members Lys Guillorn (of Still River Editions) on vocals/guitar/songwriting, Eric Bloomquist on bass and Peter Riccio on drums.

Michael Friedman launches rock and roll photo book with Kickstarter and upcoming event in Westport

Michael Friedman photographed many music legends between 1969-1973 when he worked as a publicist in the music industry. After thinking for decades his negatives were long-gone, Friedman’s wife Donna Vita found them, and the pair began to work on digitizing them, restoring them, and printing them for exhibition and publication.

The photographs, printed by Still River Editions, have been exhibited at museums, galleries, and events, including The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The California Heritage Museum and a Benefit for the Phoenix Art Museum.

Friedman has now turned the photographs and the stories behind them into the book Exposed: The Lost Negatives and Untold Stories of Michael Friedman.

The book features 200 never-before-published photos of Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, The Band, Levon Helm, Todd Rundgren, Kris Kristofferson, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, James Cotton, Ian & Sylvia, Johnny Winter, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Rush, Rita Coolidge, and Albert Grossman. Some of Friedman’s stories from inside the music business feature Bob Dylan, Bob Neuwirth, Clive Davis and George Harrison.

The book may be ordered directly through Friedman’s Kickstarter with some levels of support including note cards or prints.

There will be a book launch party with live music at the Westport Library on April 22nd, 2023 beginning at 7 pm. Tickets are available here (both free and paid including a book). The Westport Library is located at 20 Jesup Road, Westport, Connecticut.

Ridgefield Guild of Artists Camera Works 2023

Still River Editions clients Bill Gore, Andrew Graham, Marcy Juran are all in the Ridgefield Guild of Artists Camera Works 2023 Exhibition, juried by Paula Tognarelli. The opening reception is Sunday, March 26th from 4 pm – 6 pm. The exhibition runs through Sunday, March 26th (with a final viewing that day from noon to 4 pm.) 100@100 Off-the-Wall Art Exhibition & Art Department Fundraiser Feb. 25th at WCSU

Tickets are now available for 100@100 Off-The-Wall Art Exhibition & Fundraiser, to take place on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 3 pm - 6 pm at the Gallery at the Visual and Performing Arts Center at Western Connecticut State University, 43 Lake Avenue Danbury.

Artists from around the region donated artworks to support the Art Department, and ticket holders at the $100 and up level get to choose a piece to go home with. There are also less expensive tickets available to enjoy the food and festive art atmosphere without going home with artwork.

$100 is an absolute steal for an original, ready-to-hang work of art, so this is an exciting opportunity to start or build your collection.

Jim Felice Studios / Trailer Box Project is hosting a holiday celebration, group exhibition, and art sale from 1 pm - 4 pm at 12 Francis J Clarke Circle in Bethel, CT with music by singer-songwriter Lys Guillorn from 2 pm - 3 pm. All artwork for sale is under $200, and a portion of proceeds will be donated to Ann’s Place. Admission is free. There will be refreshments.

Jennie Carr’s exhibition “Love Me Two Times: New Work” will be at Loft Projects Gallery, 70 King St., Chappaqua, NY, in December 2022, and will feature works from her Equality Pin-Up Series as well as landscapes and photographs . There will be two artist receptions—Friday December 9, 2022 from 5 pm - 8 pm (as part of Wine Around Town) and Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 1 pm - 4 pm.

By posing and photographing iconic fashion dolls, action figures, and mannequins, Curtis explores gender, identity, and relationships.

Phyllis Crowley at 2022 Open Source Festival in New Haven

Photographer Phyllis Crowley is among the artists at Erector Square in New Haven opening their studios to visitors as part of 2022’s Open Source Festival (formerly called City Wide Open Studios).

This year’s theme is “In Common Spaces.”

Crowley’s studio will be open noon - 5 pm on Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23d at Erector Square, 315 Peck St., Building 2, 1st Floor, Studio N, New Haven, CT.
